I was around 19 when I started listening to KFAT--I had gotten hip to the GD about 2 years before, and KSAN had gone commercial country. I was working in the south bay and a new GD buddy turned me on. My first exposure to a lot of the GD roots--folk, bluegrass, country, blues. Really opened me up musically. I would say I owe KFAT as much credit as the GD as far as expanding my musical pallette (spelling?).
Very sad about KPIG. Dallas Dobro is one of my favorite DJs ever. BTW, he is the stage announcer at Strawberry.

http://www.kzsc.org/schedule - appears Dallas just on Monday mornings.
I usually listen to KPIG on way to work (only takes me 15 minutes max, and I usually end up hearing either Jim Hightower or Travis Hips' commentary, one or two songs max) and most days end up switching to NPR or sticking in a cassette (yes, I have a cassette player and play cassettes. Anyone want my Maxell bonus points?)
